This is Saji stone, collected from the Saji River in Tottori Prefecture, one of Japan's three great famous stones.
It is characterized by its overall bluish-black color with greenish patterns in places.
Excavation is now prohibited by ordinance, making it difficult to obtain.
This is a valuable Saji stone that calligrapher Yasuo Miyake, who served as a judge for the Calligraphy section of the Nitten (Japan Fine Arts Exhibition), collected over approximately 50 years.
