Genuine Lacquer Chinchu Style Soup Bowls - Set of 2

These are exquisite genuine lacquer soup bowls with lids (set of 2), showcasing the delicate craftsmanship of hand-carving.
The greatest appeal of these bowls lies in the peony carving, created using the traditional Chinchu (sunken lacquer) technique. This method involves meticulously hand-carving the black lacquer surface, line by line, and then filling the grooves with red lacquer to bring out the pattern.
Unlike the common Makie (a technique where paint is applied to the surface), this technique creates three-dimensional shadows, a profound depth unique to hand-carving, and the elegance of genuine lacquer that gains luster with use.
Perfect for ozoni soup during New Year's or for celebratory occasions, these bowls will instantly elevate your everyday miso soup or stew. How about using them as a pair for couples?

[Size]
Bowl Diameter: Approx. 12.5 cm
Height (without lid): Approx. 5.5 cm
Height (with lid): Approx. 9 cm

[Condition]
These are long-term storage items. The bowls themselves are in beautiful condition with no noticeable major scratches or chips, and retain their luster (please excuse minor scuffs due to storage).

[Box]
When I received them, they were in a wooden box labeled Makie Soup Bowls. However, given the characteristics of the Chinchu technique used on the bowls, it's possible this is not the original box. Therefore, this listing is for the bowls themselves (set of 2) **without the box**. We have priced them accordingly, making them highly recommended for those who want to use authentic lacquerware without hesitation for daily use.

[Shipping]
As these are delicate lacquerware items, each bowl will be securely wrapped in bubble wrap and shipped with care via Mercari便 (tracking and insurance included).

Thank you for looking.
