[About Enamel]
Enamel is made by forming steel plate (iron) and then applying a glass-like coating, which is then fired at a high temperature of 850 degrees Celsius.
A base glaze (glass-like: black) is fired onto the iron, followed by an overglaze (glass-like: surface color).
Applying the glaze is done by hand by artisans.
Therefore, there are individual differences in the appearance of each piece due to unevenness in the glaze, such as bumps or the base glaze showing through.
For example, at the welding points, rims, and edges.
The black areas seen here are the base glaze.
This area is difficult to apply the overglaze enamel to, so black areas remain.
Also, unavoidable when making enamel products are the marks left by the hanging tools.
When firing enamel products, some parts need to be hung with tools.
At that time, the overglaze enamel cannot be applied, and marks from hanging and firing remain, revealing the black base.
These marks are also a proud testament to the fact that artisans have created each enamel product by hand.
They are by no means defective products, but rather unique characteristics of handmade items.
