Source Unknown
Absolutely stunning cut crystal serving cloche featuring an elaborate antique-gold/brass-toned artichoke or pineapple finial surrounded by dimensional acanthus-style leaves. The crystal dome is richly decorated with deep geometric cuts, starbursts, fans, crosshatching and circular motifs that catch and reflect the light beautifully. The ornate metal finial gives the piece a dramatic Victorian/Edwardian-inspired look and makes it a gorgeous statement piece for a formal dining table, buffet, china cabinet or holiday tablescape. This only includes the dome. No plate is included. Approximate Measurements • 8 1/2” diameter • 8” tall including finial A Little History Elaborately cut crystal cloches became symbols of elegant dining during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly during the American Brilliant Cut Glass period, approximately 1876–1917. Crystal domes and covered serving pieces were used at formal tables to protect and beautifully present foods such as cheeses, butter, pastries and other delicacies. This particular piece has the dramatic look associated with that tradition, especially with its intricate crystal pattern and architectural metal finial. A fabulous piece for collectors of cut crystal, antique-inspired serveware, Victorian décor, Edwardian décor, French-style interiors, maximalist décor or unusual tableware.
